Wedding venue red flags are rarely as theatrical as a chandelier falling during your tour. More often, they appear as a vague quotation, an unanswered operational question or a contract clause everyone assumes will somehow become charming later.

A package price should identify room hire, food, drinks, staffing, décor, AV, service charge, taxes, corkage and overtime. Ask what is excluded and what can change.

Slow replies happen; repeatedly unclear answers are more concerning. Request one written contact point and confirm decisions by email or message.

Tour the exact room, toilets, changing area, loading route and guest entrance. Check pillars, maintenance, smells, lighting and any construction plans.

See the real backup room and confirm its capacity, setup, decision time and whether décor can be moved without extra charges.

Test step-free access, lifts, parking, private-hire drop-off and the route from public transport—preferably in formal shoes, if you enjoy realism.

Test microphones and sightlines. Confirm power, screens, sound limits, technicians, external-vendor fees and whether speeches can be heard from every table.

Read cancellation, postponement, minimum-spend, guest-count, menu-substitution, force-majeure and refund terms before paying the deposit.

A good venue tour should reduce uncertainty, not produce a sequel’s worth of unanswered questions. Put every promise in writing, compare complete costs and sleep on the contract. Deposits are much less romantic when they become tuition fees.
